Question: Would you like a new hobby with a group of men who love to sing? Question: Would you like to travel as part of your new hobby? Question: Do you fancy singing as a member of a well known male choir? INTERESTED? Why not come along to one of our concerts or rehearsals? You will be made to feel most welcome. The majority of our members are ordinary blokes who have learned how to make a wonderful sound, by practicing regularly. We are very fortunate to have a few brilliant soloists, and an octet/ ensemble, but most of us are men who enjoy singing in harmony with others. If you do not know to which of the four voice sections -Tenor I, Tenor 2, Baritone and Bass - you are most suited, our Musical Director will help you find the most suitable for your vocal range. WHERE DO YOU FIND OUR REHEARSALS? The Choir rehearses twice weekly in the Saint John and Saint Mary Magdalene Church Hall, known locally as the concrete church, on Lockwood Road, Goldthorpe, which is off the main Doncaster to Barnsley road, A635. We practice from 7:30pm to 9:00pm on Wednesday evenings and from 11:30am to 1:00pm on Sunday mornings, throughout the year (except Bank holidays). CLICK TO VIEW MAP........ You are welcome simply to turn up, but if you prefer, give our Secretary, John Keating a call on 01226 715172, mobile 07747891288 or email him beforehand. WHAT WILL HAPPEN? Whether your new to male voice singing or have experience with another choir, you will be asked if you prefer to ‘sit in’ or just observe. Either way, our members will make you feel welcome and assist you any way possible. During rehearsal we will practice items we are familiar with and learn items new to our repertoire. We sing some old male voice favourites, competition items and new music, to keep ourselves fresh and up to date. We have an extensive music library, almost 900 items and add at least four or five, ‘new’ pieces to it annually. These range from secular music, music from the shows, old and new, modern day ‘pop’ music, and of course, good old fashioned ‘pot boilers’. All music is supplied by the choir and these are paid for from choir funds. Choir subscriptions are determined by the A. G. M. but are only £1.50 per week. We also run a tote and a bonus ball, to help fund raise, if members wish to partake. IF YOU BECOME A MEMBER The choir currently have one uniform, which we provide. In addition, we do ask that new members supply themselves with a evening dress suit, black shoes and socks, but we will supply dress shirt, a variety of bow ties and all items related to other uniforms, asking only a ‘one off’ small, returnable deposit on those items. We do expect members to attend regularly, although we do understand people do have other commitments as well. Our musical director is always open to suggestions for concert music and will consider all input. We perform, on average, one concert per month, more at Christmas and do enter competitions, when convenient.
