Assistant Accompanist.

Betty Heatley was born in Great Houghton and educated at Thurnscoe Hill School and Barnsley Technical College. As a youngster she learnt to play piano and relished singing. She became Assistant Accompanist to THMVC in 1998. Betty had a long standing musical association with Colin Leech with whom she had sung many duets. She is also joint accompanist with the U 3 A Choir and Wombwell Senior Citizens Mixed Voice Choir.

Accompanist.

Irene Hill began playing the piano at a very young age and first accompanied Thurnscoe Harmonic M.V.C. at the tender age of 13 years. She was born in Thurnscoe and continued her education at Barnsley Technical College. Irene has been principal accompanist since the age of 17, with only a nine year break when her husband Eric was posted to the Far East with the R.A.F. Irene is also a very talented organist and joint accompanist to the U 3 A choir as well as Wombwell Senior Citizens Mixed Voice Choir.

Musical Director.
Tony Jermy has been a member since 1983. A talented soloist and baritone, he has spent time in amateur dramatics and as a teacher, taught children the beauty of music. He agreed to deputise for Peter Snipe after the sad loss of Colin Leech.
Our members have now unanimously and very delightedly, promoted him to musical director after Peter’s retirement. Tony says that his first priority will be to revive some old pot boilers and introduce some exciting new music to the choirs repertoire. He has recently started a mixed voice choir with the Barnsley University of the 3rd Age. (U3A) Barnsley Branch.
